I hope y'all have had a good crimmus and new yea, there's a bunch of new stuff come around, most important of which is that you can change all fields on your profile via the shrimp frontend now!
(Banner, Avatar, Display name, bio, Location, Birthday, Fields, and whether you're a cat or not (and speak like one), meow)
Other than this, there's just a bunch of secret world domination backend fixes and updates, though nothing much worth noting.
Alright shrimpers, buckle up, because we got - checks notes - 3 days worth of iceshrimp.net development updates that we just went through, and while most of it is just some security vulnerability stuff, some of it actually impacts y'all's screens;
- There's an actual Account tab now! It contains default note visibility (it was private by default for a while now, then we changed it to public, but now it actually respects your individual settings), renote (boost) visibility (yes it has a visibility!), setting your account to locked (private) mode (requiring follow requests), then auto-accepting follow requests from people you're already following, auto-marking all your media as sensitive, and two-factor authentication.
- There's now a registration page! Previously you'd have to send a manual HTTP request (and you'd needed to know the magic incantation), but now there's an actual page for it; mastodon.hermitcollective.net/register
- There's been some subtle colour adjustments to the default interface, so your eyes will burn less (not that the burning isn't unintentional, muhahaha)
Due to a budgetary oversight during the migration phase, we did not properly check media uploads.
This led to the unfortunate loss of many big pictures and videos, as some evil bureaucratic middle reverse proxy would eat it and feed their family off of it.
We have now booted this reverse proxy and taught it some manners, it behaves well now, and you can upload images and videos up to 100 MB again.
(never mind, there appear to be a few more requests that hit a brick wall like this.
In any case, the "501 not implemented" errors are harmless (or that is what they WANT you to think, muhahahaha) and will not crash your client or anything. Everything should still be usable)
Chat, it has come to my attention - the almighty @computer - that some of y'all are sick with the disease called "no emoji worky in display name"
Be joyed! This disease is curable! It is a leftover from our dark times with the previous shrimped of ice, where the format our feeble bios and display names was stored in was but a mere small shrimp, and now it is much more stronger (and shrimpier)
All you need to do to fix this issue, to cure this disease, is to update your bio once, this doesn't have to be your display name, and can only be a single comma or space in your bio.
On this note, the "501 Not Implemented" error is gone (if you refresh with cleared site data (cache and service worker))
this is because shrimped ice doesn't (yet) support mastodon's "notification policies", even if it tries very hard to trick every single one of you that this is a mastodon server, muhahaha
There was an issue on bluesky.hermitcollective.net where websockets would not work, this meant that posts and notifications wouldn't immediately show up, and the page would refresh internally every 5 or 10 seconds or so.
Once again, have a good togshrimping, and do notify us of any problems with your shrimpage, so that we can more accurately and efficiently use our wrench supply on the developers
@loller10000 after much calculation it appears you show a positive response to the suggestion of such a feature our team shall take that into consideration
